Description
The Back-UPS RS offers high performance protection for your business and office computer systems. It provides abundant battery backup power, allowing you to work through medium and extended length power outages. We bought this unit to protect our audio/visual equipment from the many power surges that we have to put up with here in East Texas. It can handle minor surges and keep the directv receiver from having to reset due to an instantaneous power loss.
It absolutely didn't help during a thunderstorm. We have two cheaper ups systems in the house that did their job. This one, unfortunately did not. We lost a large hd tv and a directv receiver.
I called the company to file a claim under their guarantee. That's when the problems started.
They wanted me to pay shipping on the unit that let the lightning thru so that they could test it. IF they determined that their unit didn't work, I would then have to ship the tv to them, again at my expense, so that they could test it. Then I would be reimbursed for the tv at a reduced price determined by a 3rd party. By the time that I paid the shipping fees and got only a small portion for the tv, it was not worth doing.
It wasn't until I filed the claim and got the email that I figured that out. At that point, I rerouted the shipment of the replacement system back to them, and called them to let them know that I was cancelling the claim and would never purchase another one of their products.
I have another cheaper APC backup, and another companies product without battery backup and they both caught the incoming surge before there was any damage.

Rated 5 out of 5�by Bj Great product. So nice to have it automatically shut down my computer. Easy to install. We often don't have reliable power in the winter and this eases my mind. We have been pleased with APC products since 1999.

I purchase from Office Depot quite often. Some of the time it is in the store, but also online orders. I compared prices, delivery cost and time and found that Office Depot could not be beat. Thanks

This unit has worked out well for me as a secondary UPS unit. I got it using the trade in program and found that program convenient in being able to send the old unit back that I had for around 7 years..
